I have always had a strong desire to travel to most exotic places of the world, and to explore the life in those enigmatic lands in its most authentic form, while I am single. You will have to agree with me that travelling and discovering places up close and personal is undeniably the most enriching experience. Also, being single is a relatively free state of mind and it adds on to all the fun of exploring places. Just to be on my own and travel far-flung places as a solo traveler is not less than any adventure.
Well, I do have a list of places that I want to visit solo while I am still single. Before I plunge into a relationship, I want to soak in all that I can. Who knows I might have some really thrilling voyage tales to share with my partner later. So here we go in reverse order of my preference.
10. Helsinki
The mesmerizing capital city of Finland, Helsinki is on my list for many reasons. This city plays host to nearly one-quarter of the Finnish population. It is the heart of Finnish society, and this very factor makes it a vibrant cultural heartland. Many young people flock the place seeking education, employment and adventure. Hence, it is always bustling with energy and enthusiasm. Named as the World Design Capital for 2012, Helsinki is not some backwater city that can be written off easily. It is a clear fusion of old and modern. The added bonus is that it is known for higher proportion of women than the rest of Finland. Do I need more reasons to decide?
9. New York
Our very own, The Big Apple, The City That Never Sleeps, the one and only New York, New York!! Well guys, very few cities in human history have been raved about to the extent as this one. I don’t really need to offer any reasons for having it on my list. It shouldn’t be hard for anyone to see why it attracts people like bees to a hive. With its spectacular architecture, incredible museums and art galleries, of course among the other hot things, it completes the culture box. An inviting night-life is always on the offer. Add to rest, a stimulating population of intelligent, fabulously attractive and unattached women, and it’s hard for single men to argue against New York as a great place to visit.
8. Rome
Why wouldn’t I want to visit Rome as a single man when it has the most glamorous women of the world to its credit? Well, that seems too frivolous, isn’t it? I do have some more reasons. Trust me folks, from all the available ancient history and believable records, it is not hard to establish that the Eternal City Rome is almost unparalleled as a living relic. It is truly ancient blended with modern Italian society. With more than 2,500 years of continuous living, Rome has evolved uncontrollably, sometimes viciously, but remained a beacon of light in a world that is dark, cruel and uncivilized. With all its architectural and historical splendor, beautiful parks, idyllic views, and abundance of masterpieces coupled rustic appeal, Rome is a must place to visit while I am single.
7. Montreal
From the ancient world I would love to return to the Modern Society. To the impeccable delights of Montreal! The first and foremost reason to be there is that people speak French, which to me, is too glamorous. Secondly, Montreal is regarded by UNESCO as one of the best-designed cities in the world and consistently scores well in quality of life surveys. Not surprising that the entire young breed of the world wants to be there once in a lifetime. It is such a stunning city with two diverse slices to relish; Old Port, with cobbled streets and horse-drawn carriages, and the modern bustling downtown, with skyscrapers overlooked by the breathtaking Mount Royal Park. It is designed by the same man who created Central Park in New York.
6. Miami
No list for single men would be complete without the vices of Miami! Popular across the globe for its amazing weather and rocking parties, it is the place to be. Who wouldn’t want to spend their days on South Beach, devouring a Margarita and enjoying the sunshine? In this city the most carefree and the most beautiful people are found. With nothing of the history or heritage sorts to offer, Miami holds its own distinctive charms. If Miami were a woman, it would be the sultry femme fatale that would chew you up and spit you out. And you would love it, undoubtedly!
5. Stockholm
It is the most populous urban area in Scandinavia. Like many of the cities on my list, this also can be considered the cultural and historical center of its country. With architectural buildings built amid a series of islands, Stockholm is too green for an urban city. This renders a laid-back feel that sets it apart from other modern competitors on my list. Women of Sweden find it a desirable place to live and men to visit!
4. Moscow
It is by far the largest city in Russia and now (according to Forbes) boasts more billionaires than any other city in the world. For all the love of money that I have, I want to be there being single and learn all the ways to be a billionaire myself. But to be honest, all the wealth that has poured into Russia over recent years has not gone unused. It has historic sites such as the Kremlin now sharing city space with modern skyscrapers to flaunt to the world. Moscow also has a world-famous cultural heritage. The performing arts groups such as the Bolshoi Ballet call this city their home. I would love to witness all the art and intriguing culture while travelling solo to this place.
3. Hong Kong
UK handed over Hong Kong to China a few years back. It was and remains a gateway to the nation. With its huge economic significance, especially to the British Empire in years past, Hong Kong has grown extremely wealthy and is now a rambling cityscape abounding with skyscrapers and neon lights. The blending of Eastern and Western cultures has also helped Hong Kong create an identity that makes it virtually inimitable. And with all that energy bursting from all the corners of the city, the people also know how to party hard. Music, drinks, dancing and wild fun are synonymous with this land of youth. It’s a city that has everything a young man or woman could want.
2. Las Vegas
It is Vegas, baby, Vegas! In the city that never sleeps, you won't sleep either, until you catch your flight home. Las Vegas is a round the clock entertainment town where anything and everything is available required for a wild trip. This is the reason it's such a popular venue for bachelor parties. From sipping cocktails in giant pools to playing blackjack in ritzy casinos, from watching the much talked about Las Vegas stage shows to dancing in the popular pubs, everything makes it to my wild, wild wilder “being single” list. Not to forget the happening women of the exhilarating city.
1. Bangkok
This is another Eastern city that has been exposed to the West in a big way. It is educational epicenter and business hub of Thailand, with the majority of the nation’s universities located there. This attracts a huge number of young and intelligent people to the city. With the lush jungles, crystal blue waters to swim in, exotic massages, and one of the world's most varied and delectable cuisines, Bangkok is typically a city that has everything to offer a single, young traveler. It makes to the top of my “travel being single” list for all the obvious reasons!
All the absolutely stunning places that I talked about have unique traits of their own. Some flaunt lots of beautiful women, some are busy cities with exciting urban life, teeming with awesome parties, and some are less flamboyant and more rustic. But all these traits are just an addition to the amazing landscapes and architecture that they offer worth exploring. The common thing is that all of them make a promise of a lifetime experience, with or without a companion. Moreover, while I am travelling solo, I have all the chances in the world to meet someone who could become my partner for rest of my journeys. What say?
